Lake Onawashiro

...A cone-shaped volcano located in the west of Iwate Prefecture, northwest of Morioka City. It is 2041m above sea level. It is the highest peak in Iwate Prefecture and is called Southern Fuji. It has well-developed foothills on the east, north and south sides, which reach the Matsukawa, Kitakami River and Shizukuishi River, respectively, but the west side has a complex mountain shape, so it is also called Southern Fuji. The mountain is made up of East and West Iwatesans, which erupted at different times, and the east side of the older West Iwatesans is covered by the newer East Iwatesans. West Iwatesans has a large crater at its summit, measuring 3km east to west and 2km north to south. The northern wall of the outer rim is called Byobudake, and the southern wall is called Onigajo. Within the crater are two lakes, Okama and Minawashiro, which contain deep blue-blue water. ...

…岩手県西部，盛岡市の北西に位置する円錐形の火山。標高2041m。岩手県内の最高峰で南部富士といわれ，東･北･南側のすそ野の発達がよく，その末端はそれぞれ松川，北上川，雫石（しずくいし）川にまで至るが，西側は複雑な山容を示すことから南部の片富士の名もある。山体は噴出時代の異なる東西両岩手山からなり，古い西岩手山の東側を，新しい東岩手山が覆っている。西岩手山は頂上に東西3km，南北2kmの大火口をもち，その外輪山の北壁を屛風岳，南壁を鬼ヶ城と呼び，火口内には御釜，御苗代（みなわしろ）の両湖があり，濃い青藍色の水をたたえている。…
