This hot spring is located in Naruko-cho, Tamazukuri-gun, northwest of Miyagi Prefecture. Located at the entrance to the Naruko Onsen hot spring area, it is a famous hot spring in the Tohoku region with a history of 1000 years, and was known as "Kawado, Kasa Naruko, Beriberi." In the late Edo period, it was used as a hot spring for the Sendai domain, and it is said that the name Kawado came from the fact that the Mogami Kaido road ran along the opposite bank of the Arao River at the time. Located 2km southwest of Kawado Station on the Rikuuto Line, at the foot of Nakamoriyama, it still retains the atmosphere of a quiet hot spring resort. 宮城県北西部,玉造郡鳴子町にある温泉。鳴子温泉郷の入口にあり,1000年の歴史をもつという東北の名湯で,〈脚気川渡,カサ鳴子〉と称された。江戸時代後期には仙台藩御用の湯とされ,当時は最上街道が荒雄川の対岸を通っていたため川渡の名がついたといわれる。重曹硫化水素泉,52~60℃。陸羽東線川渡駅の南西2km,中森山の山すそにあって,いまだに閑静な湯治場の雰囲気を残している。【谷沢 明】
