Minstrel show

Japanese: ミンストレル・ショー(英語表記)minstrel show
Minstrel show
An American performing art that emerged in the 1820s. It consisted of songs, dances, and skits that stereotyped the lives of black slaves and were performed by white people with painted black faces (a technique known as blackface), but later blacks themselves began to perform them. Famous troupes included the Virginia Minstrels and the Christy Minstrels, and they also performed on showboats. The most important early performer was Thomas Dartmouth Rice (1808-60), whose name Jim Crow, which he gave to his songs and dances, became the name of an important character in minstrel shows and also became established as a derogatory term for black people in general.
