...The most basic test is performed with a pure tone audiometer. This device emits pure tones at seven frequencies per octave, from 125Hz to 8000Hz, at any desired intensity, and by creating an audiogram that links the minimum audible threshold for each frequency, the degree of hearing loss can be diagnosed. Furthermore, by comparing two audiograms, one in which the test sound is measured with an air conduction receiver (a so-called earphone, and the test method using this is called air conduction measurement) and the other in which it is measured with a bone conduction receiver (and the test method using this is called bone conduction measurement), it is possible to determine whether the hearing loss is occurring in the middle ear conductive system or the sensorineural system after the inner ear, which is the starting point for detailed hearing tests.
