Ochozu - Water basin

Japanese: 御手水 - おちょうず

〘Noun〙 ("o" is a prefix)① To wash the hands, face, etc. Also, a polite way of saying the water. ※Ninjyobon, Ei Taidango (1838), first edition: "I'll get you some water for your purification water (chauzu) or something."② A polite way of saying urination, defecation, or the toilet. ※Ware kara (1896), Higuchi Ichiyo, third edition: "Today, I have been able to go to the toilet (chouzu) by myself."③ An abbreviation of "Ochouzu no Kai (meeting at the toilet)." ※Tenrihon Kyogen, Tachidatsu (late Muromachi period - early modern period): "Today, the Oteuzu in Kitano has become like a festival, so I will come."
