The Czartoryski family was a Lithuanian noble family whose lineage can be traced back to the mid-15th century, but it was his grandfather, Aleksander August C. (1697-1782), who emerged as a powerful magnate. His grandfather planned to put his son, Adam Kazimierz C. (1734-1823), on the Polish throne, but the son did not want to do so and did not carry it out. …
