Empress of the House of Habsburg of Austria. Reigned 1740-80. Eldest daughter of Holy Roman Emperor Charles VI. Married Franz Stephan, Duke of Lorraine, for love. After her father's death, she inherited all of the Habsburg territories in one go under the Pragmatische Sanktion in 1740. However, she faced the War of the Austrian Succession when Frederick II of Prussia occupied Silesia and Elector Karl Albert of Bavaria claimed the inheritance. She received aid by recognizing the privileges of the Hungarian nobility, and with the support of England and the Netherlands, she made a peace treaty with Dresden in 1745.

オーストリア･ハプスブルク家の女帝。在位1740‐80年。神聖ローマ皇帝カール6世の長女。ロートリンゲン公フランツ･シュテファンと恋愛結婚する。父の死後プラグマティッシェ･ザンクツィオンPragmatische Sanktionにより1740年に全ハプスブルク世襲領を一括相続するが，プロイセンのフリードリヒ2世のシュレジエン占領とバイエルン選帝侯カール･アルバートの相続要求によりオーストリア継承戦争に直面し，ハンガリー貴族の特権を認めて援助を受け，イギリス，オランダの支援をも得て，45年ドレスデンに和約を結ぶ。
