...During the Edo period, Hibara was part of the Aizu domain and developed as a post town on the Yonezawa Highway, but it declined when the road passed through Otoge. Wasezawa, Onogawa, Hosono, and Ogozawa were woodworking villages. In 1888, the eruption of Mount Bandai dammed the Nagase River, creating lakes such as Hibara Lake, Onogawa Lake, Akimoto Lake, Sohara Lake, and Goshikinuma Lake. Hosono and Ogozawa were buried under a mudflow, and Hibara was submerged under the bottom of Lake Hibara, so the villages were relocated. ...
