1882‐1948 German vaudeville performer and author. His real name was Valentin Ludwig Fey. He was born in Munich. He initially took over the family business as a carpenter, but around 1908 he distinguished himself as a comedian in the Munich vaudeville (cabaret) world. He wrote and performed all of his plays, monologues, dialogues, and kuppres, and he also made his own stage sets and instruments. His works are characterized by his use of the Bavarian dialect and his wordplay that ignores normal thinking and idiom. However, his works do not simply generate laughs; they also offer a glimpse into the instability of human existence by lifting the veil of common sense from everyday subjects, which is also related to the theater of the absurd.
