...It is also generally believed that when an alien species establishes itself, competition between it and native species occurs. Some researchers distinguish between interference, when one species directly or indirectly prevents the other species from using the other's resources or requirements, and exploitation, when one species uses resources or requirements faster or in greater quantities than the other species, thereby affecting the amount available to the other species; however, in practice, it is often difficult to clearly distinguish between the two. Some also call the process of fighting to obtain resources or requirements essential to life competition itself, while others call it competition only when harm or disadvantage occurs to one species as a result of the conflict.
