...The former was adopted as part of the salt monopoly system in the early modern Kaga domain, where the domain would have a foundryman in Nakai (now Anamizu Town, Ishikawa Prefecture) cast salt pans at the domain's expense and then lend them to the saltmen. These salt pans were called "Oshiiregama" (purchasing pans), and the domain would own them for the first six years, after which the foundryman would own them and lend them to the saltmen for another seven years, at which point they would be sold to the saltmen at the end of the thirteen-year period. This principle continued until the end of the domain's rule, but there was also a system in which foundries would cast salt pans at their own expense and lend them directly to the saltmen, on the condition that they would be repaired in case of damage, and this continued until the Meiji period. *Some of the terminology that refers to "Oshiiri Kama" is listed below.
