〘noun〙① A board used for pressing things. Used to squeeze out water from clothes or food. ※Yougaku Dokushohon (1887)〈Nishimura Tei〉6 "Next, place the pressing board and squeeze out the water."② A floor where a thick board is attached to the top of the tatami mats on which to hang scrolls and arrange the three utensils. Also, this board. In the past, it was used in the tokonoma alcove of a shoin study, and is the predecessor of the modern tokonoma alcove. [Bunmeihon Setsuyoshu (middle Muromachi period)] ※Kimidai Kansochoki (1511) "When three scrolls are pressed against one another, one set of five scrolls, the three utensils should always be placed on top."③ A board placed in a room as a stand for books, inkstones , etc., without being built in. ※The Tale of Soga (around the Northern and Southern Courts) 10 "In this pressing plate (omitted) I have piled up a number of grasses." ④ A small plate attached in place of a handle to the place where you put your hand when pushing a door such as a free-standing door.
