The majority of this group were intellectuals belonging to the aristocratic landowning class, and representative figures include the thinker Chaadaev, the writers Turgenev, Annenkov, Panaev, Goncharov, Druzhinin Aleksandr V. Botkin (1812-69), the radical thinker Belinsky from the lower classes, and aristocrats such as Herzen and Ogarov who continued the revolutionary tradition of the Decembrists.
