Ivan Semyonovich Peresvetov
A 16th-century Russian soldier and political thinker. Dates of birth and death unknown. Born in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, he served in the Polish-Lithuanian army in the 1520s and 1530s, before arriving in Russia in 1538 (or 1539) via Moldova. At the end of 1549, he presented his work The Narrative of Sultan Mohammed and Tsar Constantine and a Petition to Ivan the Terrible, calling for the strengthening of Russian state and imperial power. The main points of his argument included limiting the power of the great nobles, favoring the minor nobles and strengthening the military, adopting a meritocracy system, and attacking Kazan.

16世紀ロシアの軍人,政治思想家。生没年不詳。リトアニア大公国領に生まれ,1520~30年代にポーランド・リトアニア軍に勤務した後,38年(または39年)モルドバを経てロシアに到来した。49年末イワン雷帝に自己の著述《スルタン・マホメットと皇帝コンスタンティノスの物語》と《嘆願状》を提出し,ロシア国家と皇帝権力の強化を訴えた。その主張の要点は大貴族権力の制限,中小貴族の優遇と軍隊の強化,能力主義の採用,カザン征討などにあった。
