Osari - Osari

...In northern India, although not as widely as in Islamic societies, the principle of gender segregation is observed, with the darwaza being the domain of men, and the angan and andarat being the domain of women. The darwaza is the room at the entrance, and the attached veranda, called the osari, is where men rest during the day and where they put their beds on hot nights. The angan is a rectangular courtyard that contains a Hindu shrine and a well, and in some areas where livestock are kept.
