[Modern Encyclopedia (1922)] [Book of Rites - Wang System]② An official position placed in the Ministry of Education in charge of inspecting and supervising academic affairs. It was first established on August 12, 1873 ( Meiji 6 ) and was abolished after World War II. They inspected educational administration, school education, school hygiene, school finances, and the work conditions of teachers and staff. ③ An official position placed as a local official in charge of inspecting academic affairs. It was abolished after World War II. County inspectors were established in 1890 ( Meiji 23 ), and prefecture inspectors (formerly local inspectors) in 1899 ( Meiji 32 ), to guide and supervise the management of education. 〘名〙① 学事を視察すること。〔現代大辞典(1922)〕 〔礼記‐王制〕② 文部省に置かれ、学事の視察、監督にあたった官職。明治六年(一八七三)八月一二日に置かれたのが最初で第二次大戦後廃止された。教育行政、学校教育、学校衛生、学校財政、教職員の執務状況などを視察した。③ 地方官として置かれ、学事の視察にあたった官職。第二次大戦後廃止された。郡視学は明治二三年(一八九〇)、道府県の視学(旧地方視学)は同三二年(一八九九)に設けられ、教育の運営状態を指導、監督した。〔地方官官制(明治三八年)(1905)一条〕
