An old town in Kamoto County, in the northern part of Kumamoto Prefecture, at the northern end of the Kumamoto Plain. It is a rice paddy area, and also produces chrysanthemums and melons. Kutami, the center of the town, is an old distribution center for agricultural products in the Kikuchi River basin, and has been famous for its Shibu fans since the feudal era. In January 2005, it was incorporated into Yamaga City along with Kakita Town, Kikuka Town, and Kao Town in Kamoto County. 17.63 km2 . 8,884 people (2003). 熊本県北部，熊本平野北端の鹿本郡の旧町。水田地帯で，キク，メロンも産する。中心の来民(くたみ)は菊池川流域の古くからの農産物集散地で，藩政時代以来の渋うちわは特産として有名。2005年１月鹿本郡鹿北町，菊鹿町，鹿央町と山鹿市へ編入。17.63km2。8884人（2003）。
