Kamoto [town] - Kamo
An old town in Kamoto County, in the northern part of Kumamoto Prefecture, at the northern end of the Kumamoto Plain. It is a rice paddy area, and also produces chrysanthemums and melons. Kutami, the center of the town, is an old distribution center for agricultural products in the Kikuchi River basin, and has been famous for its Shibu fans since the feudal era. In January 2005, it was incorporated into Yamaga City along with Kakita Town, Kikuka Town, and Kao Town in Kamoto County. 17.63 km2 . 8,884 people (2003).
