A full-length novel by French author R. Rolland. Ten volumes in total. Published between 1904 and 1912. The story revolves around the life of Jean-Christophe Kraft, a genius composer modeled on Beethoven and Rolland himself. Born in the Rhineland in Germany, Christophe struggles with poverty while becoming independent as a musician (Dawn, Morning, Youth). He rebels against the conventions of a provincial German city and leaves for France (Rebellion). However, he is also disappointed by the corruption and decadence in Paris' literary, musical, and political circles (Fair at the Square).

フランスの作家R.ロランの長編小説。全10巻。1904‐12年刊。ベートーベンおよびロラン自身をモデルとする天才的作曲家ジャン･クリストフ･クラフトの生涯が物語の経糸（たていと）になっている。ドイツ，ラインラント地方に生まれたクリストフは貧困とたたかいつつ音楽家として自立する(〈曙〉〈朝〉〈青年〉)。ドイツの地方都市の因習に反逆し，フランスに去る(〈反抗〉)。しかしパリの文壇，音楽界，政界の腐敗と堕落にも失望する(〈広場の市〉)。
