Okutateshina Onsenkyo - Okutateshina Onsenkyo

A general term for a group of hot springs on the western mountainside of the Northern Yatsugatake mountain range in central-eastern Nagano Prefecture. These simple mountain hot springs are dotted along the Shibukawa valley. It is the name given to the Tateshina hot spring area centered around Lake Tateshina, and includes Yokoya, Meiji, Shibukawa, Shibu, and Shibunoyu hot springs. They are found at altitudes of 1,600 to 1,900 meters, and are best visited in the seasons of fresh greenery and autumn leaves. Many people use them on the way to and from hiking in the Northern Yatsugatake mountains. It is a one-hour bus ride from Chino Station on the JR Chuo Main Line.

長野県中東部、北八ヶ岳(やつがたけ)連峰の西側山腹中にある温泉群の総称。渋川(しぶかわ)の渓谷沿いに点在する素朴な山の湯。蓼科湖を中心にした蓼科温泉郷に対する呼び名で、横谷(よこや)、明治、渋川、渋、渋ノ湯の各温泉がある。標高1600～1900メートルの高所に分布し、新緑、紅葉のころがよい。北八ヶ岳登山の行き帰りに利用する人も多い。JR中央本線茅野(ちの)駅からバス1時間。
