Stage - Okibutai
〘noun〙① A stage that is laid out on the Bugaku stage, four sun (about 12 centimeters) high and one jo 8 shaku (about 5.4 meters) square, on which the performers dance. ② A platform laid on the stage in Kabuki when historical plays or dances are performed. It is used to smooth the actors' foot movements and improve the sound of their footsteps. The main stage and hanamichi are covered with rectangular hinoki boards four sun (about 12 centimeters) high, three shaku (90 centimeters) wide, and one jo (3 meters) or one jo 2 shaku (3.6 meters) long. A stage for performing gestures. A laid stage. *Kabuki, Kanjincho (1840) "The main stage and hanamichi are both covered with laid-out stages, and on the opposite side is a mirror panel painted with a pine tree."
