A district of Urakawa Town in the Hidaka Subprefectural Bureau in south-central Hokkaido. It was incorporated into Urakawa Town in 1956 (Showa 31). In the western part of the town, in the Motoura River basin, over 80 people from the pioneer group Sekishinsha settled in 1882 (Meiji 15), and succeeded in pioneering the area with Christianity as their spiritual pillar.
