True Form of the Five Mountains - Gogakushingyouzu (English)

Japanese: 五岳真形図 - ごがくしんぎょうず（英語表記）Wǔ yuè zhēn xíng tú

A type of Chinese Taoist talisman. In ancient times, Taojun placed five great mountains on the earth to pacify the earth, and it is said that the shapes of the five mountains were observed from the heavens and copied into a kind of mystical map. When a Taoist travels through the mountains and rivers with this talisman, the spirits of the mountains and rivers will greet him and take care of him in various ways. This talisman was already considered an important Taoist text in Ge Hong's Baopuzi of the Eastern Jin Dynasty, and several related scriptures are included in the Daoist Canon.

中国，道教の護符の一種。太古の時代，太上道君が大地の鎮めとして五つの大岳を地上に置いたが，その五岳の形を天上から観察し，一種の神秘的な地図として写し取ったものという。道士がこの護符を持って山川を経めぐるとき，山川の精霊たちが出迎えていろいろ世話をやいてくれるのである。この護符は，東晋の葛洪（かつこう）の《抱朴子（ほうぼくし）》の中ですでに重要な道典だとされており，《道蔵》の中にもいくつかこれに関係する経典が収められる。
