...In 1720-21 (Kyoho 5-6), they were the industry leader as the Go-Kakushi Mitsui-gumi. In 1868 (Meiji 1), they were ordered to handle the financial affairs of the new government, and took charge of them under the name of Go-Kakushi-Kasa Mitsui-gumi. In 1873, Mitsui-gumi and Ono-gumi (which went bankrupt in 1874) jointly invested in establishing the First National Bank, and in 1874 they renamed their currency exchange shop the Kosei Bank Mitsui-gumi, and then in 1876 they established the privately-owned Mitsui Bank, which took over the business. ...
