The Book of Habakkuk

One of the twelve minor prophets in the Old Testament. It is a collection of prophecies spoken by the ritual prophet Habakkuk, who was active in Jerusalem around the end of the 7th century BC, and was compiled between 609 and 598 BC. In the first chapter, the prophet's lament and God's response are repeated twice, indirectly complaining about Egyptian oppression. In response, God hints at the arrival of a historical change. A recent interpretation is that this refers to the rise of Nebuchadnezzar of the Neo-Babylonian Empire after defeating Egypt in the Battle of Carchemish in 605 BC. The following second chapter is a collection of prophecies of disasters against the Chaldeans (Babylonians), who had been so tyrannical up until that point. The final third chapter predicts the final judgment of the Chaldeans with a song of praise to the theophany, but this part is not found in the Dead Sea Scrolls discovered in 1947.

『旧約聖書』中の十二小預言書の一つ。紀元前7世紀末ごろのエルサレムで活動した祭儀的預言者ハバククの語った預言集で、前609～前598年の間に成立した。内容は、第1章で預言者の嘆きと神の応答が2回ずつ繰り返され、間接的にエジプトの圧政を訴えている。それに対して神は歴史的転換の到来を暗示する。これは、前605年のカルケミシェの戦いでエジプトを破った後の新バビロニア帝国のネブカドネザルの台頭をさしていた、と解するのが最近の解釈である。続く第2章は、これまで恐るべき横暴を働いたカルデア（バビロニア）人に対する災禍預言集となっている。最後の第3章には、神顕現の賛美の歌をもってカルデア人への終末的審判が預言されているが、この部分は1947年発見の『死海文書』にはない。
