Kameda Peninsula

Japanese:
Kameda Peninsula

The Oshima Peninsula in southwest Hokkaido is divided into east and west in the south, and Matsumae refers to the eastern part of the peninsula. The western part is called the Matsumae Peninsula. It occupies the eastern part of the Hakodate lowlands, which connects the town of Morimachi with Hakodate Port from north to south, and faces Uchiura Bay to the north, the Pacific Ocean to the east, and the Tsugaru Strait to the south. It is an extension of the Tohoku region, and volcanic rocks make up the majority of the area, with volcanoes such as Komagatake, Yokotsudake, Esan, and Hakodateyama erupting through the Neogene layers. All of the rivers that carve the mountains are short, and as the mountains approach the sea, there is little flat land, confined to the coast and river basins. Fishing is the main industry, but in recent years it has become an area for migrant workers.
