A patriotic French girl known as the Maid of Orléans. In the latter half of the Hundred Years' War, the Kingdom of France was once again invaded by the English army. The English royal family, in league with the Duke of Burgundy, ruled over northern France, while the legitimate French king, Charles VII, retreated to southern France, living a life of despair and idleness in the face of the overwhelming military superiority of the English royal family. Then Joan, a divine girl, appeared and conveyed the will of God, encouraging Charles and inspiring his soldiers, who defeated the English army that had besieged Orléans (1429).

フランスの愛国的少女。〈オルレアンの乙女〉と呼ばれる。　百年戦争も後半に入って，フランス王国は再びイギリス軍の侵攻を迎えた。ブルゴーニュ公家と結託したイギリス王家は北フランスを支配し，正統のフランス王シャルル7世は南フランスに退いて，圧倒的に優勢なイギリス王家の軍事力の前に，自暴自棄と無為の生活を送っていた。そこに神の少女ジャンヌが出現して神意を伝え，シャルルを励まし，兵士たちを勇気づけて，オルレアンを包囲したイギリス軍を撃破した(1429)。
