Omine Mountain Range

Japanese: 大峰山脈 - おおみねさんみゃく

Commonly known as Mt. Omine. Also known as the Yamato Alps. A general term for the mountain range centered on Mt. Sanjogatake in southern Nara Prefecture, including Mt. Hakkenzan (Mt. Butsukyougatake), Mt. Shakagatake, and Mt. Daitenjo in the north and Mt. Nirvana in the south. Sandwiched between the upper reaches of the Yoshino River and the Kitayama River in the east and the Totsukawa River valley in the west, this mountain range stretches in a north-south direction and forms the central part of the Kii Mountain Range. It is made of old rocks from the Chichibu Palaeozoic Formation, and its mountain shape is in its prime. It is a series of steep peaks with an altitude of nearly 2000m, and Shugendo has been developed there since ancient times. Today, it is popular with ordinary climbers. It is rich in beautiful mountains, valleys, and forests, and belongs to Yoshino-Kumano National Park.

通称大峰山。大和アルプスともいう。奈良県南部の山上ヶ岳を中心として，北は大天井岳，南は涅槃岳までの八剣山 (仏経ヶ岳) ，釈迦ヶ岳などの山域の総称。東は吉野川の上流と北山川，西は十津川の谷にはさまれ，南北方向に延びた山脈で，紀伊山地の中央部を形成。秩父古生層の古い岩石から成り，山容は壮年期。標高 2000m近い峻峰が連なり，古くから修験道が発達。現在は一般登山者も多い。山岳美，渓谷美，森林美に富み，吉野熊野国立公園に属する。
