Cobalt metal

…In Japan, a unique technology has been developed to produce cobalt from this concentrate. The mixed sulfides are oxidized and dissolved with high-temperature sulfuric acid (170°C) under oxygen pressure, and the solution is purified by solvent extraction, and metallic cobalt is produced by electrowinning.

Metallic cobalt does not have many uses other than as a catalyst in the synthesis of oil by the Fischer process, but as an alloy it has many important uses, as follows:
