A monastery (head temple) of the Longmen sect of Quanzhenism that still exists in Beijing, China. In the ancient Jin dynasty, it was called Tian Changguan, and from the end of the reign of Emperor Shizong (1161-1189), it was associated with Quanzhen founder Wang Yan (Chongyang) and Changchun Zhenjin (Zhenjin Qiu Changchun). Qiu Changchun, who was personally appointed by the founder of the Yuan dynasty, lived here and renovated it, renaming it Changchun Palace. It was abolished with the fall of the Yuan dynasty, but after Qiu Changchun's death, it was renamed Baiyunguan after the name of the residence of Yin Zhiping, who succeeded him as chief priest, and Qiu Changchun's grave was placed there. The current Baiyun Temple was relocated and renovated after the Ming dynasty, and housed Taoist priests from all over the country as the Jippo Sorin, where they were given precepts and qualifications. It was known as one of the leading Taoist temples housing the orthodox Ming version of the Taoist Library, but after the revolution it was converted into a barracks. Repairs began in 1981, and it has been open to the public since 1983.
