Ida Kamińska

Polish actress. She defected to the United States (1968) as the director and founder of the Warsaw Jewish Theatre, where she performed, and her mother, Esther, was ignored, despite having been a key figure in the founding of the theatre (1913). During World War II, she briefly led the Jewish theatre in Lvov, Ukraine, and after returning to Poland, she managed Jewish theatres in Lodz (1949-53) and Wroclaw (1953-55), surpassing her mother's achievements. She excelled in roles such as Nora in A Doll's House and the "gutsy mother," and also adapted The Brothers Karamazov.

ポーランドの女優。ワルシャワ〈ユダヤ劇場〉の主宰者，演出家として公演先のアメリカに亡命(1968)したため，母親エステルが同劇場創立(1913)の功労者であるにもかかわらず，その存在は無視された。第2次大戦中は一時ウクライナのリボフのユダヤ劇場を主宰し，帰国後，ウッチ(1949‐53)，ブロツワフ(1953‐55)でもユダヤ劇場を経営した功は母親にもまさる。《人形の家》のノラや〈肝っ玉おっかあ〉の役を得意とし，また《カラマーゾフの兄弟》の脚色も手がけている。
