Shigeo Kamiyama

Critic. Former Central Committee member of the Japanese Communist Party. Born in Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi Prefecture, and raised in Taiwan. Graduated from Seijo Junior High School in Tokyo in 1924. Joined the Japanese Communist Party in 1929. The following year, he organized the Zenkyo Renewal Alliance in opposition to the far-left policies of the National Council of Japanese Trade Unions (Zenkyo), which was under the leadership of the party, and was criticized for factional activity. He was arrested in 1935, but faked his conversion and was released the following year. In 1945, he became a Central Committee member of the party. In 1949, he was elected to the House of Representatives with the party's approval (he was banned from holding public office the following year by MacArthur). In 1954, he was expelled from the party for factional activity, and although he rejoined the party in 1958, he was expelled along with Yoshio Shiga and others for supporting the Partial Test Ban Treaty. He later formed the Japanese Voice Comrades Association with Shiga and others, but left in 1967 to focus on critical activities. From 1947 to the following year, he debated with Shiga over Lenin's understanding of the concept of "military feudal imperialism" and the definition of the nature of the modern imperial state. He left behind over 80 books, including the four-volume Collected Works of Shigeo Kamiyama.

評論家。元日本共産党中央委員。山口県下関市に生まれ，台湾で育つ。1924年東京成城中学卒。1929年日本共産党に入党。翌年党の指導下にあった日本労働組合全国協議会（全協）の極左的方針に反対して全協刷新同盟を組織，分派活動との批判を受けた。1935年検挙されるが偽装転向して翌年出獄，1945年党中央委員となる。1949年党公認で衆議院議員に当選（翌年マッカーサーにより公職追放）。1954年分派活動で党除名，1958年に復党したものの，部分的核実験禁止条約に賛成して志賀義雄らとともに除名。その後，志賀らと〈日本のこえ同志会〉を結成するが，1967年に脱退し，評論活動に専念。1947年から翌年にかけて，レーニンの用いた〈軍事的封建的帝国主義〉の概念理解と，近代天皇制国家の性格規定をめぐり，志賀と論争した。80冊余の著作を残し，《神山茂夫著作集》全４巻がある。
