A town in Sorachi County in central Hokkaido. It occupies the northern part of the Furano Basin, and the Furano Line runs through it. Tokachidake and Furanodake mountains in Daisetsuzan National Park tower in the east, and the mountain's broad foothills open out to the west. There is extensive farmland where beans, potatoes, and asparagus are grown, dairy farming is also carried out, and the bottom of the basin is used as rice paddies. 北海道中央部,空知(そらち)郡の町。富良野盆地の北部を占め,富良野線が通じる。東部に大雪山国立公園の十勝岳,富良野岳がそびえ,西に広い裾野が開ける。畑地が広く,豆類,ジャガイモ,アスパラガスを作り,酪農も行われ,盆地底は水田となる。十勝岳温泉,吹上温泉がある。237.10km2。1万1545人(2010)。
