Phylum Protochordata, Subphylum Urichorta, Order Salpes, Family Salpacidae. The body is slipper-shaped and covered with a membrane, the front end being slightly wider than the rear, and the rear end has a pair of dark green tail-like projections. The body length is 12-15 cm, but larger ones can reach 20 cm. The tunic is thick and hard, and short spine-like projections are scattered on the dorsal surface. There are also 18-22 body muscles running parallel to each other in a circular pattern on the dorsal surface, which allow the fish to swim through the water by contracting them. It is found in warm waters around the world, and is food for fish.
