This is a provisional border between Germany and Poland established by the Potsdam Agreement of 1945, running along the Oder River and its tributary, the Neisse River, and was a long-standing cause of conflict between East and West. In 1950, an agreement was signed between East Germany and Poland that made this the final border, but West Germany, the UK, the US and France did not recognise the agreement. West Germany later recognised it in 1970. After German unification in 1990, it was confirmed that this line would remain the border into the future. →Potsdam Conference→Related article German-Soviet Non-Use of Forces Treaty Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
