A city in northwest Poland, in Zachodnyo-Pomorskie Voivodeship. It is located about 130 km northeast of Szczecin, and about 10 km inland from the Baltic Sea. It has existed since the 13th century, and in the 14th century it was one of the richest towns in the Pomeranian region. It flourished as a key location on the trade route between Gdańsk and Szczecin, and became the administrative center of the region in the 16th and 17th centuries, but fell into decline after the Thirty Years' War (1618-48). It was then ruled by the March of Brandenburg. In the 19th century, it regained prosperity with the construction of the Gdańsk-Szczecin railway line. It was returned to Poland in 1945. Food industry and agricultural equipment manufacturing are thriving. There is a 14th century St. Mary's Church and the Middle Pomeranian Regional Museum. Population 108,709 (2002). ポーランド北西部,ザホドニョポモルスキェ県の都市。ドイツ語ではケスリン Köslin。シュチェチンの北東約 130km,バルト海から 10kmあまり内陸に位置する。 13世紀以来の町で,14世紀にはすでにポモージェ地方で最も豊かな町の一つであった。グダニスク-シュチェチン間の交易路の要地として栄え,16~17世紀にはこの地方の行政中心地となったが,三十年戦争 (1618~48) により衰退。以後はブランデンブルク辺境伯領の支配を受けた。 19世紀,グダニスク-シュチェチン間の鉄道敷設により繁栄を取り戻した。 1945年にポーランドに復帰。食品工業,農機具製造などが盛ん。 14世紀のマリア聖堂,中部ポモージェ地方博物館がある。人口 10万 8709 (2002) 。
