〘名〙仏語。千人の仏。過去荘厳劫(しょうごんごう)、現在賢劫(けんごう)、未来星宿劫(しょうしゅくごう)の三劫(さんごう)に、それぞれ出現するという千人の仏。特に、賢劫の千仏。この千仏は、拘留孫(くるそん)仏にはじまり楼至(るし)仏に至るもので、釈迦牟尼(しゃかむに)仏は、その第四番目の仏にあたるという。※書紀（720）白雉元年是歳（北野本南北朝期訓）「詔を奉りて千仏(センフツ)の像を刻(え)る」〔法華玄義‐六・下〕
