Kiyokawa [village] - Kiyokawa
A village in Aiko District, northern Kanagawa Prefecture. Population 3,478 (1995). Located in the eastern Tanzawa Mountains, the Nakatsu River flows north through the center of the village. The main settlement is Susugadani. 95% of the total area is forest land, and it was once a major producer of firewood and charcoal, but in recent years it has been converted into timber forest. Shiitake mushrooms, chestnuts, tea, pig farming, etc. are cultivated. The western half of the village area is designated as Tanzawa-Oyama Quasi-National Park, and the eastern half is Prefectural Tanzawa-Oyama Natural Park. The Nakatsu Valley was known as a scenic spot, but when the large multipurpose Miyagase Dam was constructed upstream of the Nakatsu River, approximately 374 hectares were submerged and 274 houses were lost to the lake bottom.

Kiyokawa [Kiyokawa village]

A village in Ono County in the southwest of Oita Prefecture. Population 2,625 (1995). The Okudake River, a tributary of the Ono River, flows north through the center of the town. In the hilly area in the north, made of Aso lava, tobacco and tea are cultivated, and sericulture is carried out. The Hohi Main Line runs through the town, and sand fields are located in the center of the town. In the mountainous area in the south, shiitake mushroom cultivation is thriving, and the town is also rich in underground resources, with deposits of limestone, dolomite, and manganese. In recent years, the cultivation of prince melons and rushes has become popular, as well as the raising of cattle and pigs. The Iwato ruins from the Paleolithic period are located here.

神奈川県北部,愛甲郡の村。人口3478(1995)。丹沢山地東部に位置し,中央部を中津川が北流する。中心集落は煤(すす)ヶ谷。総面積の95%が林野で,かつては薪炭の生産が盛んであったが,近年は用材林への転換を進めている。シイタケや栗,茶の栽培,養豚などが行われる。村域の西半は丹沢大山国定公園,東半は県立丹沢大山自然公園に指定され,中津渓谷は景勝地として知られたが,中津川上流に大規模な多目的ダムの宮ヶ瀬ダムが建設され,およそ374haが水没し,274戸の家屋が湖底に消えた。

きよかわ【清川[村]】

大分県南西部,大野郡の村。人口2625(1995)。中央部を大野川支流の奥岳川が北流する。北部の阿蘇溶岩からなる丘陵地帯ではタバコや茶の栽培,養蚕などが行われ,豊肥本線が通り,町の中心砂田がある。南部の山岳地帯ではシイタケ栽培が盛んで,地下資源にも富み,石灰石,ドロマイト,マンガンなどが埋蔵されている。近年,プリンスメロン,イグサなどの栽培や牛,豚の飼育が盛んに行われている。旧石器時代の岩戸遺跡がある。
