The second largest stock exchange in Japan after the Tokyo Stock Exchange. It is called "Osaka Securities Exchange" for short. It was founded in June 1878. Its location is Kitahama, Chuo-ku, Osaka. In May 2000, it partnered with the US Nasdaq market to open Nasdaq Japan, a market aimed at emerging companies, but in December 2002 Nasdaq dissolved the partnership. It later restarted under the name "Hercules," but the number of listed companies has not increased. The Osaka Securities Exchange itself is a bustling trading area for derivative products such as Nikkei average futures and individual stock options.
