Topi - Topi (English spelling)

Japanese: トピ - とぴ(英語表記)topi
Topi - Topi (English spelling)

It is a member of the order Artiodactyla and family Bovidae. It is found in western and eastern Africa, living in dry grasslands. It stands 100-127cm tall at the shoulder and weighs 90-270kg. Both sexes have horns, which can reach 60-70cm in length. The body is a deep chestnut red with black spots on the upper parts of the legs and face. It usually lives in groups of around 20 and eats almost exclusively grass. During mating season, males establish territories, and females and their young move freely between these territories. Closely related species include the lunatus ( D. lunatus) of southern Africa and the hunteri (D. hunteri) of central Kenya. The latter is thought to have a population of less than 1,000, and there are concerns that it may become extinct.
