This is the former area of the western part of Kama City in central Fukuoka Prefecture. It was incorporated as a town in 1892. In 1955, it merged with Senju Village, Ashijiro Village, and Miyano Village to form Kaho Town, and in 2006 it merged with Yamada City, Inatsuki Town, and Usui Town to form Kama City. It is located at the intersection of the Akizuki Kaido and Hita Kaido roads, which connect the Kaho Basin and Hita Basin, the Chikushi Plain, and Kitakyushu, and developed as a post town and market town. It is home to the ruins of Masutomi Castle, where Goto Mototsugu lived, and the grave of Mori Tabei. 福岡県中部,嘉麻市西部の旧町域。 1892年町制施行。 1955年千手村,足白村,宮野村と合体して嘉穂町となり,2006年山田市,稲築町,碓井町と合体して嘉麻市となる。嘉穂盆地と日田盆地,筑紫平野と北九州とを結ぶ秋月街道と日田街道の交点に位置し,宿場町,市場町として発展した。後藤基次の居城した益富城跡,母里太兵衛の墓などがある。
