Lidiya Korneevna Chukovskaya (English spelling)

Lidiya Korneevna Chukovskaya (English spelling)

A Russian female novelist. Born in St. Petersburg as the daughter of poet and critic K. I. Chukovsky. "Sofia Petrovna" (translated as "Abandoned House"), which describes the 1937 Stalinist purge, was written in 1939, but was not published in Russia and was only published 25 years later in Paris. This is a tragic testimony that "I could not help but write," and it questions the truth and fate of "innocent" people who are arrested without any crime. In "The Wrath of the People" (1973), she defended A. D. Sakharov. Her other works include "Underwater Diving" (1972), a record of the oppression of intellectuals in the late 1940s, "Open Letters" (1976), which defended Solzhenitsyn and others, and "Notes on Akhmatova" (1976-80), all of which were published abroad. In 1974, he was expelled from the Union of Soviet Writers for defending Solzhenitsyn and Sakharov, but was reinstated in 1988.
