Computability is a mathematically formulated concept of functions that can be calculated concretely using functions on discrete structures such as natural numbers. A common feature of all calculations is that they process symbols mechanically, according to predefined rules, without relying on chance or originality. Therefore, computable functions are the same as functions that can be calculated by an (idealized) computer with an unlimited amount of memory. [history] The concept of computability emerged in the 1930s as a culmination of various proposals by leading logicians such as Gödel, Turing, Alonzo Church (1903-95), and Stephen C. Kleene (1909-94) in an attempt to answer the question of what computation is. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
