...A site from the final Jomon period in Oishi, Ogata-cho, Ono-gun, Oita Prefecture. Located on a semi-flat plateau overlooking a tributary of the Ono River, five surveys were conducted by Beppu University between 1958 and 1966. In addition to what is believed to have been a stepped pit dwelling 7.8m in diameter and 3m deep, several hearths were found, as well as remains of what is thought to have been a flatland dwelling and a child's jar coffin. Although some of the pottery excavated was from a later period, the majority of the remains were from the early final Jomon period or a type subsequent to this, with much of the pottery being dark brown and polished with a spatula, and consisting of bowls and various shallow and deep bowls. ... *Some of the terminology used to refer to "Oishi-style pottery" is listed below.
