〘Noun〙 A type of particle in Japanese grammar. For example, "ne-sa-yo" in "This is the book you're talking about." In literary language, it is "i-ro-ra-e-na (the above are from the Nara period), yo-ya-shi-wo," and in colloquial language, it is "ya-zo-ne-ga-na-yo-sa." It was named by Yamada Takao. There is disagreement about the distinction between this and final particles, and there is also a theory that it should be considered a final particle or an emotional particle together with Yamada's final particle. 〘名〙 国文法で助詞の一類。「これがね、例のさ、本だよ」の「ね・さ・よ」など。文語では「い・ろ・ら・ゑ・な(以上は奈良時代)、よ・や・し・を」、口語では「や・ぞ・ね・が・な・よ・さ」など。山田孝雄の命名。終助詞などとの区別に異論があり、また、山田の終助詞と合わせて、終助詞また感動助詞とする説もある。〔日本文法論(1902‐08)〕
