Identification (English spelling)

In political science and sociology, it means a sense of belonging, unity, or attachment to something (such as a country, society, organization, values, or person). A typical example is the concept of party identification in American politics. It means that voters have a sense of belonging or attachment to a certain political party and tend to support that party when voting, and is a term used in a similar concept to party support in Japan. In a similar sense, it can also mean attachment or a sense of belonging to a country or the company or organization to which the individual belongs. In general English usage, it is translated as to identify or identify with something, but it is also used to mean proof of an individual's identity, and is commonly used as an "identification card."

政治学，社会学においては個人があるもの (国家，社会，組織，価値観，人物など) に対して帰属意識，一体感，愛着などをもつことをいう。典型的な例としてはパーティ・アイデンティフィケーション (政党帰属意識) というアメリカ政治における概念がある。それは有権者がある政党に帰属意識もしくは愛着をもち，投票の際にはその政党を支持する傾向が強いことを意味し，日本における政党支持態度と近い概念で用いられている言葉である。同様の意味では，国家やその個人の所属する企業や組織への愛着心や帰属意識を意味する場合もある。また，英語の一般的な用法では，一体視すること，同一視することと訳されるが，個人の身元を証明するという意味に用いられることもあり，日常的には「身分証明書」の意味で使われる言葉である。
