Hiraka [town] - Hiraka
A former town in Hiraka County, in the Yokote Basin in the central-southern part of Akita Prefecture. It has extensive rice paddies and produces a lot of rice. It is also famous for producing apples such as Hiraka apples. Poultry farming is also thriving. Asamai is the center of the town. In October 2005, the towns of Jumonji, Omori, Omonogawa, Masuda, Yamauchi, and Daiyu were incorporated into Yokote City. 63.32 km2 . Population: 15,064 (2003).
