Japanese: モクヨクカイメン(沐浴海綿) - モクヨクカイメン（英語表記）bathsponge

A sponge of the family Porphyridae in the class Demospongi. Also known as bath sponge or hot water sponge. It is found in subtropical to tropical regions, and in Japan, it is found in Okinawa. The main areas of production are the Mediterranean Sea, the Caribbean Sea, Florida, and Cuba, where it grows in places where the water temperature does not drop below 25°C and the current is fast and clear. It usually grows as a black mass or shell layer about 30 cm in diameter, with tubes protruding from the surface in various places and openings at the tips. The interior is yellowish brown to gray brown, with thick irregular grooves.

尋常海綿綱モクヨクカイメン科の海綿動物。別名ヨクヨウカイメン(浴用海綿)，ユアミカイメン(湯浴海綿)。亜熱帯から熱帯域に分布し，日本では沖縄に産する。世界の主要産地は地中海，カリブ海，フロリダ，キューバなどで，水温が25℃以下にならず，潮流が速くて清澄な場所に成育する。ふつう直径が30cmほどの黒い塊や殻層状になり，表面のところどころから管が突出して，その先端に口が開いている。内部は黄褐色から灰褐色で，太い溝が不規則に走っている。
