Acts of the Apostles

Japanese: 使徒行伝 - しとぎょうでん(英語表記)Praxeis Apostolōn; Acts of the Apostles
Acts of the Apostles
A book of the New Testament following the four Gospels. It is believed to have been written in Greek in Rome between 70 and 90. Although the title is "Acts of the Apostles," most of the content is about the activities of the early Christian community, represented by Peter and Paul, and the history of the spread of the gospel from Jerusalem to Rome through the work of the Holy Spirit. As stated in Acts 1:1, "I, Theophilus, wrote the first book...", the author of Acts and the Gospel of Luke (c. 80) are the same person, but the literary form and intent of Acts are different from those of the Gospels, and the selection of historical materials is also limited. In addition, the first-person plural writings in Acts indicate that the author was a companion of Paul, but there are significant differences between the descriptions of Paul in Acts and the accounts in Paul's letters. The main contents include the ascension of Christ, the descent of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, Peter's preaching, the activities of Peter and John, Paul's conversion, Peter's mission to Cornelius and the establishment of the Church of Antioch, Paul's three missionary journeys and return to Jerusalem, Paul's arrest and defense, and Paul's escort to Rome.
