Ainoshima

An island in the Sea of ​​Japan in northern Yamaguchi Prefecture. It is part of Hagi City. It is located 14 km northwest of Hamasaki Port, and there are three regular ferry services per day. Its area is 2.48 square kilometers. It is a basalt plateau, and has been used for cattle farming and field crops since the feudal era. Today, watermelons and tobacco leaf cultivation have replaced the traditional cultivation of daisies. The beautiful scenery, including sea caves and sea-cut rock pillars on the west coast, is part of the Kita-Nagato Coast Quasi-National Park. Population 199 (2009).
