Ainoshima

An island in the Sea of ​​Japan in northern Yamaguchi Prefecture. It is part of Hagi City. It is located 14 km northwest of Hamasaki Port, and there are three regular ferry services per day. Its area is 2.48 square kilometers. It is a basalt plateau, and has been used for cattle farming and field crops since the feudal era. Today, watermelons and tobacco leaf cultivation have replaced the traditional cultivation of daisies. The beautiful scenery, including sea caves and sea-cut rock pillars on the west coast, is part of the Kita-Nagato Coast Quasi-National Park. Population 199 (2009).

山口県北部、日本海に浮かぶ島。萩(はぎ)市に属す。浜崎港から北西14キロメートルに位置し、1日3便の定期船がある。面積2.48平方キロメートル。玄武岩台地で、藩政時代から養牛と畑作を行う。現在ではかつてのジョチュウギクにかわってスイカと葉タバコの栽培が盛んである。西海岸の海食洞や海食岩柱など優れた景観は北長門(きたながと)海岸国定公園の一部をなす。人口199（2009）。
