Tsumekizaki

Japanese: 爪木崎 - つめきざき

A cape at the southeastern tip of the Susaki Peninsula (Kakizaki Peninsula) in Shimoda City, Shizuoka Prefecture. It is a raised sea platform about 20m above sea level, with a lighthouse on it and surrounded by sea cliffs. Below the cliffs on the western side is a strange rock formation called Tawaraiso, formed by wave erosion of andesite with columnar joints. A frost-free zone with a warm marine climate, it is home to colonies of Crinum lilies and daffodils, and the Daffodil Festival is held from late December to the end of January. There is a nature trail that passes Kurosaki, Araiso, the remains of the lighthouse and leads to Susaki Ebisujima. [Kitagawa Mitsuo]

静岡県下田市，須崎半島(柿崎半島)南東端の岬。標高約20mの隆起海食台で，灯台があり，周辺は海食崖にかこまれる。西側崖下には柱状節理をもつ安山岩が波の浸食によって形成された俵磯とよばれる奇岩がある。温暖な海洋性気候の無霜地帯で，ハマユウ，スイセンなどの群落がみられ，12月下旬から1月末には水仙まつりが行われる。黒崎，荒磯，灯明台跡を経て須崎恵比須島にいたる自然遊歩道がある。【北川光雄】
